Building your brand on social media

By November 30, 2015 No Comments

We have already looked at building your brand awareness through different channels in a previous post but we didn’t go into details about doing this on social media. It is vital in this digital age to establish your brand on social media. Not only can social media help you reach a wider audience, it can also help you improve customer service and keep up a conversation with your customers that reflects your brand values.

1. Facebook

According to Ipsos MRBI social networking quarterly survey in August 2015, 59% of people in Ireland had a Facebook account. Facebook is one of the largest platforms in which individuals and businesses can communicate. Unlike many other social media platforms you are not limited in the amount of characters you can use. This is beneficial if you have a bigger brand message to get across to your audience.

2. Twitter

Twitter allows two way communications in real time on the platform. Unlike Facebook, Twitter is restricted to 140 characters in length. Many businesses use this to communicate short messages that they link to their various other platforms and social media accounts. Because of the real time communication many people use Twitter for customer service as if they have an issue that needs a quick solution they may tweet a company.  This can negatively affect your brand but it can also quickly turn negative comments into positive ones if the issue is resolved quickly.

3. LinkedIn

This is a business oriented social network service.  You can set up a business account for your company on which you can link to other platforms. On this platform you can share more formal updates about your business to show your brand values.

4. Pinterest

If your business has a significant visual presence then this social media account would be appropriate in communicating your brand message. For example if you were a photographer it would be important to share your photos in order to show your brand to your audience.

5. Google+

Users of Google can share their identity and interests across Google platforms. One advantage of having this account for your business is that it can directly connect you with customers whether they look for your business on search, maps or Google+. This can help in building your brand as your business will be easier to find.

6. Tumblr

Similarly to Pinterest this platform is more appropriate for brands hoping to share visual content. Multimedia content and blogs are commonly shared between users on this platform.

7. Instagram

This is a mobile photo sharing and video sharing social media platform. Again this platform is more suited to businesses looking to share visual aspects of their brand identity.

There are various social media platforms for building your brand and so it is important to identify which platforms your audience use and also which platforms communicate your brand values best. Our guide to building your brand can further help you in doing this effectively.
